The Sevier Family Tradition Spans 9 Generations

Learn about the roots a legacy of the Sevier Family

Immigrant Valentine Sevier- In coming to the new world he dared to bring with him something from the old country that would connect his family for generations. Not much is known about the first Valentine Sevier other than the recipe and love of his fellow man.

Col. Valentine Sevier- He gained the rank of Colonel during the American Revolution, then went on to found Washington county, the oldest county in Tennessee. He would go on to defend his land and family in a horrific massacre against local tribes. Despite wars and struggles their legacy lives on.

Ens. John Sevier- The son of Colonel Valentine Sevier maintained the family tradition of defending The United States. Under the command of General Andrew Jackson Ens. John Sevier served as the color bearer at the battle of New Orleans. He carried on his family’s legacy and would pass on their legacy to his daughter.

Nancy Conway Sevier- Like those that came before her Nancy was determined to protect her legacy and her land. When Federal soldiers attempted to burn the family home Nancy refused to leave it, she was also known to go out and speak with soldiers that were riding past the family home while her daughter was giving birth and asking them to take another route. Which they did. Nancy would be the one who retained the family land and would become a huge part of it’s legacy.

John Sevier Irwin- Nancy’s son who was known as the “Broad-shouldered mountain Robin Hood.” He could not stand by when injustice was taking place. There are legends of him coming to the rescue of many a young woman and neighbors who were under attack of thieves. This was most likely why Nancy chose her son John to carry on the family recipe.

Nancy Eliza “Muddy” Bell- Not unlike the Nancy before her, Nancy Eliza “Muddy” Bell wasn’t afraid to get dirty and do what she could to bring her family together. A relative to the Bells who did battle with the legendary Bell Witch Nancy was never able to scare easy. With her bravery and willingness get dirty for her family it wasn’t a difficult choice as to who was to carry on the legacy of her family.

Cornelia Elizabeth “Connie” Yett- Connie was the one who looked back through her family line and paid close attention to the whole story and all of it’s details. Through her hard work and dedication the family will know their story for generations to come. She became the gatekeeper of the stories, legends and the legacy of the family recipe.

William “Bill” Yett- Bill inherited more than the family recipe he inherited his mother’s love for teaching. As an active teacher in town he wanted to keep the family recipe a secret while allowing his pride and joy in his family’s history shine through. It would be a mission he and his son would undertake together to bring the family’s legendary recipe to the world.

Christopher Yett- The current protagonist in the family’s legend; Christopher is working to make sure that his family’s legacy includes their longtime recipe being shared with the world. Christopher is making sure that his children know their place in their family’s history and instilling in them a hard work ethic and joy for distilling.
